Quilted Heart Projected Spotted at Kent Park

Have you found a quilted heart? Beginning in early spring of 2023, regular Kent Park visitors have been stumbling upon homemade quilted hearts hanging from the trees on the path around the pond. No two hearts are the same, each heart is made from quilted fabric that is stitched together to form unique designs. To go along with the art, the makers weave in a tag reading: “I NEED A HOME! I Found A Quilted Heart #IFAQH”.

While new to the Johnson County area, the I Found A Quilted Heart project has been ongoing for many years around the world. It first started back in 2014 when a couple came across a quilted heart while hiking in Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada. The two appreciated the small work of art and felt inspired to contribute by making their own hearts to share with others. They began the sewing project and created a website so that when someone had found one of their quilted hearts, the finder could let them know. What started out as a simple project by two people who wanted to brighten a stranger’s day soon grew to an international level. From The United States of America, to Malaysia, to Jamaica, to Iceland, the I Found A Quilted Heart website has pictures of people all over the globe finding these small works of art.

If you come across one of these quilted hearts, the creators encourage you to keep the heart and share your story on the website provided in the tag. If you would like to join the I Found A Quilted Heart project, follow the website as well to learn how to make a heart, print out the tag, and the rules to follow when distributing the art.
