This past Saturday, the boys wrestling team participated in Districts. Freshman Jack Stevens ended up getting runner-up in the tournament. This means that he has qualified for state. Stevens is only the second freshman to ever qualify for state in CCA school history.

“I knew coming into districts that I had tough opponents. I felt I didn’t wrestle my best in the first match but I pulled out a win.” Stevens is looking to possibly becoming CCA’s first freshman to reach the podium.

The first round of state starts Thursday, February 18th. Stevens will be wrestling against a two time state qualifier from Fort Dodge. “I am definitely nervous and excited. I have been working hard for this.”

Stevens shares how it feels good to reach this point and achieving this accomplishment. With challenges like having to cut weight this season, it feels satisfactory for it to all be worth it and for it to pay off.

This season has of course been different with Covid. The wrestling team ended up having to quarantine for 2 weeks mid-season. Along with all of this, this is also the first year Stevens is wrestling for the high school team.

Stevens also shared his goals for his future regarding wrestling: “Qualifying for state every year with my ultimate goal of standing on the podium.”
